Stiff fresh air cable

The fresh air control (the top control on the 3-control ventilation control panel) is very stiff and resists moving all the way to the left (off/closed) position. I can assist it manually by moving the levers in the luggage trunk area, but I assume something needs lubrication.

Before I start removing cables and lubing them and also any pivot points in the mechanism, anyone have any suggestions for what to go after first? The exposed cable ends look a little weathered, but overall the whole system is very clean and in good shape. I think it's just seen very little use before I got it a couple months ago. Even the noisy fan up there has quieted down with use.

Garage
After having removed mine for some lubrication I just decided to replace it with a new one that I fabricated from a lawnmower cable - total cost about $10.00.

Howdy-

This shouldn't be too big of a deal. The first thing I'd do is a quick check to make sure none of the cables are kinked or hung up behind a hood hinge or hood strut, etc. There is also a cable that runs from the drivers side diverter box (I'll call it that for lack of a better name) over to the diverter box on the pass. side. A couple of 10mm box wrenches should pop the cables free at their connection points on the boxes, and maybe a squirt of silicone lube down the end of the cable housing will help free them up. I have never messed with the actual control levers box so I can't comment on that one...

Make sure once you pop a cable off you don't move the levers. That will help it all get back together the way it came apart.
