Brake Pad Choices

I know this has been discussed to death, so if you have no positive contribution, please forgive me and move on. I would like to get some opinion from those who are using aftermarket performance pads. What is the flavor of choice?

Expectations:

-Great initial bite
-Mostly street driving, canyon carving, high speed braking
-No track days, no DE, no ax
-Brake dust and noise is not concern

Thanks in advance.

I just replaced my brakes with restored calipers from PMB. Eric recommended porterfield pads....so I went with what the brake expert suggested.

I only have about 15 miles on the car since completing the job so I can't speak to their performance, but I'm confident whatever Eric recommended will be great.

Porterfield R4-S for street...I like PFC 11 on the track.

No track days, no De's.... Any of the less expensive pads our host sells will be more than adequate. I use Metal Master on the street and Raybestos race pads on the track. Very happy with both. Did some Autocross and some beginner track days on the Metal Master's and they held up fine there too.

Use OEM type pads for the uses you've described. The Textar are fine. Street/Track or racing pads are designed to work well at higher temperatures. You'll never get them hot enough on the street to work properly. I use Ferodo DS 2500's. They're great when they're up to temp, but not good cold.

In the past I used Hawk HpS and HP+ pads on other cars. What I am looking for is a better initial bite than Textar, Pagid, Mintex crowd.

My thoughts exactly.

My car is a 99% street car, so a big emphasis on emergency braking. The DS 2500 were horrible. The OEM ones feel a way lot safer.

No disrespect meant here.....are you sure you know what your looking for needing more initial bite on a street only car? I would think the pads you mentioned would be more than adequate for spirited driving on the street.

Maybe your brake system needs refreshed and the problem you are trying to correct resides there and not the pads?

Freshly build calipers, new lines and fluid. I am not trying to fix a problem here.

I use OEM. Why? I swear that the Textar our host sells are virtually "dustless". More time driving, less time cleaning wheels.

I did the same research and chose R4S for my hot rod, and for my 89.

I know the OP wasn't concerned with track performance, with that I'll add that a set of R4-S's lasted me exactly 2 track days and maybe 600 street miles. I switched to Raybestos ST-43 which work way better then the R4-S did on track and surprisingly on the street too, even when cold. They however can be a little noise/squeely at times so prob wouldn't recommend as a street only pad. The degree of brake dust is huge as well. I might check out those stock Textars for street as Im sick of washing the brake dust off the car every other drive.

Chris, I assume your referring to these Textars?:

front: Part #: 911-351-950-08-M3
rear: Part #: 911-352-950-06-M3

I'm happy with the Textars on my SC, but I have also always been happy with the R4-S pads on my SE-R (which, granted, is a bit of a different vehicle from a braking standpoint.) They've lasted ages, too.

I got my pads from Buckinghampshire High Performance in England. Seem to be good pads, no squeeks.
