When fun track days...aren't
Not my car, but still heartbreaking
|
Now a parts car!

Not too heartbreaking to me . This looks like a dedicated track/ race car . The guys in the game at this level understand this is a big part of the equation.
Heart breaking to me is the car dragged off that looks like this that is a guys daily driver and his buddies convinced him to take his car to the track " aw come on dude the car was designed for the track" " |
I really would like to do a couple DE event's this summer/fall to learn my 930.. this is in the back of my head! I know I won't be pushing it to the limits of the car above, but still can't help thinking "what if"
|
Cfos?
|
that is definitely not a daily driver! and if you can afford to lose it, race it, and if you cant, dont.

I drive way slower than the car is capable, as I really want it to come home in one piece. Its still way more fun than you can have on the street... Assuming you drive at 7/10's or less, very little risk I think... |

Hate to see anyone at the track experience a $20k++ out of pocket accident. Watching both race and street cars crash feels about the same to me. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...ys/a_pukey.gif <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/nw_rngND3LA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Loses some sympathy points in a DE crash if an ego fueled red mist driver lacking supervision or instruction is at fault. ;) |
Yes, during a very early warm up session. Drivers are both a little beat up, but OK.
|
This car was said to have spun, and then hit by a following car.
|
Poor form to post someone else's crashed racecar. Not cool. Car owner can post and tell his story if he wants. You shouldn't.
|
Matt, that never dawned on me.
Crap, how do I delete? |

Sorry, pics deleted.
Glad drivers will be ok. The owner of the car can contact me directly. |

It's common courtesy. It's the polite thing to do. If you choose not to respect that it is 100% up to you. |

I've seen plenty of those kind of pics on RL over the years. Even videos actually. But like I said, pics are one thing, commentary is completely different. I certainly wouldn't care if it was mine, but no worries either way.. I get what you are saying. |

I understand what you're saying, it's just sad that it has come to this. Certainly never used to be this way. I just don't get why it's such a big deal. Oh well...
|
As someone posted above, if the owner wants to post it, let them post it.

I know the individual that was involved in this incident and he asked me to post this message for him:
To all following this post. The incident occurred at the California Festival of Speed. First practice session for our class. About halfway through the session I spun and went off track and stopped. As I was preparing to go back on track, I noticed in my peripheral vision another car broad sliding at high speed towards me. Then came the crunch. It was a very hard hit. Hardest hit I experienced in over ten years of racing. Other driver apologized and we had a good discussion. We both were devastated by the damage to our cars. Basically two write-offs. Both cars were serious race cars and stuff does happen. It is the nature of the sport. Part of me thinks I may have been where I was to save the other driver. Had I not been where I was to cushion the impact, the other driver would have broadsided driver's side into the wall. My view is he would have had serious injuries or worse if that had happened. My main message to all out there is the importance of safety equipment. My cage was intact. Not even bent. Impact wrapped car around cage. Good helmet with Hans and seat that keeps, head from moving side to side important. All worked as designed. Whether racing or doing track days, safety equipment first. Finally, thanks to,the person who removed the photo. Have fun and be safe. |
No worries I hope.
I posted because it was heartbreaking to me, and did not think about the owner first. |
