What does SC mean

I have never read what SC stands for, if anything. I guess this would be the forum to ask.

79SC Targa

Super Carrera. Spunkadelic Car. Take your pick! It's really the former.

Hey, not trying to make fun of the fact but I thought the SC represented "Standard Car". I remember something about it in "Excellence" a few issues back.

I asked Bruce Anderson this question once. His reply: Super Carrera.

If history tells us anything, it means Super Carrera. I believe in 1963 the 356c had three engines available. The models were as follows. Carrera 2, 1600C and the 1600 SC. Now the "S" always stood for Super and I know that the "C" has stood for Carrera. I believe the 78-83 models were named after those older models. That sounds about right. Or in my cars case it should stand for Super Clean....TargaEuro

I read that Super Carrera was derived from the 76-77 limited production Carrera3.0 as the SC followed this car (78) and was essentially a production model of the same, but with some extra features (mostly creature comforts).

Isn't it amazing that when these cars came out they had "creature comforts" and now I see them described as "raw".

SC loyalists, please, don't be offended (all pre-964s are great), but what is so 'super' about 'em? I mean, engine-wise, they're no better than a Carrera 3.0 ... Must be the servo-actuated brakes and the rubber-centered clutch!

This question has been around a lot and no one really seems to be able to document an answer with an authoritative source from the company. Bruce Anderson should know, but I'm not so sure he's right this time. The best explaination I have heard was that it was an internal designation that didn't really stand for anything, at least officially. I tend to beleive this, as it explains the continued confusion over what SC stands for and why no one is able to verify what it means.

Then again, I have no real authority for this opinion either, I just remember reading it somewhere that seemed like a reliable source at the time.
