fire on the heat exchangers!!!
I replaced th 2.7 with a 3.0. the 2.7 leaked badly and of course all over the exhaust. needless to say, once got the 3.0 running I checked underneath for a looksy and noticed the heat exchangers on fire....I got the hose and played fireman.
question: assuming this is oil burn off, how shall I get the excess oil off the inside of the exchangers. would a torch to heat them up once removed to burn off the excess oil do the trick?.....anyone else have this problem? |

I would suggest taking them to a machine shot and have them dipped in the hot tank. You could spray a few cans of brake cleaner in there, but the tank will get them nice and clean.

Like Chris said, take them to a machine shop or radiator shop, and have them hot tanked to remove all that crap.

Call Lovelace Radiator at 863-3600 on route 4 in Hamilton. Alan can tell you if cleaning them will work.

Motor oil doesn't normally catch on fire - I suspect that you might have something else going on, like a fuel leak? Or perhaps they were previously cleaned with some solvent that is still on there?
