My Cruise Control Module Flaps Up and Down
 

My '87 has the cruise control module mounted under the dashboard as opposed to in the front trunk like on earlier cars.

The module is screwed to a bracket on one side, but there is no bracket of any kind on the other side to mount this thing. Consequently, when I go over a large bump the thing springs up and down and sounds like a stupid diving board.

What do the rest of you guys do to affix this thing so it doesn't bounce/vibrate/make noise?

Unless my car is missing a bracket, which I could easily see given the travesties the PO inflicted. That being said, it looks correct compared to the PET.

The bracket on the module is mounted to a bracket under the dashboard. You can see the underside of the knee pad at the very top of this pic for reference:

The bracket on the module has a hole on the other side for mounting, but there is no corresponding bracket on the car to screw into. So the whole module just kind of cantilevers out there.

Really! I just took another look at the PET, and yes, you're right! It's got to be #14 in this image:

I always thought this was the front side bracket, but this clearly shows the back. Amazing.

Okay, the next problem is that this bracket, P/N 91161702100, appears to be NLA. Yes, it shows on our host, but everywhere else it shows NLA.

Anyone got one for sale?

I bought a used bracket from EASY for the price of only partially getting bent over. One place seriously tried to sell me one for $50.

Anyway, so I get the bracket in the mail and go to install it but can't find the other tab that this bracket connects to. So I unscrew the other side and drop the module so I can get a better look. Only then does it become obvious. Another fabulous gift from the previous owner. The tab had clearly been broke off so that a sheet metal screw could be drilled into the cowl behind it to affix the replacement car stereo.

So I now have a bracket I bought that is useless, a tab that is missing and can't be fixed, and a hole in the cowl from some POS aftermarket stereo.

Neat.

Oh, I "fixed" the flapping cruise control module with a zip tie. Cost: $0
