Exhaust Question

For those of you with stock mufflers I'd like to know whether the seam on the muffler rests on the hanging bracket. On my stock system, and on the '73 system I have now, the muffler seam comes roughly a half-inch below the shelf on the muffler hanging bracket. The strap secures it, but I wonder why it does not sit a half-inch higher so it could rest on that bracket shelf.

And a related question: is this bracket (the cadmium plated bracket that is attached to the black engine cradle) adjustable up and down. I do not recall any elliptical bolt holes or anything, so my recollection is that this is not adjustable.

Anybody know?

Hey Superman.

The seam of the muffler does sit on the lip of the bracket. I had to repair my motor mount and I had to unbolt the muffler bracket and I recall that the mounting holes were not slotted. But easily could be.

Here's a better shot of the muffler.

Thanks, John. It seems logical that the seam would rest on the bracket, but I find this puzzing because both my exhaust systems fit the same way.....about 1/2" UNDER that bracket. Can others confirm what John is reporting? (I believe you John, just want to be sure).
