1972 WideBody Rear Fender Vents?? Anyone know what they are

I just found this 1972 911 in a barn near me, has the original complete motor and trans and a 1986 930 Turbo Engine in in now, all steel body conversion, etc. I have never seen these types of side vents, I can not find welds for the rear conversion and the vent areas look factory stamped? Anyone have any ideas what they are, brand, etc.

Not factory at all. Look like they are off of an old refrigerator. Do they go anywhere?

The vents may be from some old mid-engine car? Or older cowl vents, lots of older cars have cowl vents.

For inter coolers?
They would be at the rear of the flair for venting

Probably going to be difficult, considering how the fenders were reshaped to fit them, and how close they are to the door jamb. You could show these pics to your favorite/local body guy to see what they say.

My guess is the vent area needs to be all cut out and new metal spliced in. At that point, might consider returning to stock fenders. But, that is a big can of worms to open. You could use it as an opportunity to personalize the car.

That engine is a lot in that chassis. I hope is has bigger brakes too!

Just kidding the car overall sounds like an awesome find! Definitely would weld in large sections of the rear quarters to replace those through. Someone spent some serious time to make the body flow around these vents but, the Porsche gods want you to remove them

Oh my, the Vanagon reference is probably my spot on, the strange thing if you look at the inside fender picture is that the holes look to be factory stamped, it is all steel, no filler around the vents with tabs? Could it have been some aftermarket company that sold rear quarters?

Interesting also per the motor question is that it has all the turbo bits installed including turbo brakes, etc. the VIN says it's a 72 911e, the original motor and trams come with it, the interior is like a time warp, strange car go sure

Ugly, but I bet that little car motors with the engine in there. So they are pretty much doing nothing since there are not any ic's under them, or any weird venting going on? I'm guessing that the wing houses the ic, if so I would get rid of them, but its going to be a lot of work unless you are a body guy.
But, if you have the cash its best to put that car back to stock and reap the benefits down the line when it comes to selling/owning it.

Agreed on the ugly! I am perplexed on how much it is worth as it sits, I would remove the strange side vents and the bad turbo sills, overall it is very solid, rust free, clean, other than the fuggly vents!!! Anyone have an idea on what it would be worth as an original ROW 911e 1972 with the original motor included?

Tough to say without seeing the whole car. Whats the front end look like? Sans originality maybe $25,000, possibly more, maybe less depending.
