'78 SC Correct Redline?
Tach sez 6300, book says 6800. Given my motor's mods, it revs extremely freely--but what is the correct redline?
|
I was looking through the factory work shop manuals and noticed that many of the the SCs, including 78' have a redline of 7000??? I would think the owners manual would be right. I think the Tach has the "red" starting at 6300 so you start paying attention.
Not sure though |
I think perhaps mine is supposed to be 6300 or so nominally. Rev limiter kicks in around 6700, nominally.
But in the real world, the rev limiter kicks in around 7000 rpm. So, that's redline I guess (I ignore the colors on the tach). At least, the engine will not accelerate beyond that. And my amps go to eleven, of course. |
I have gone above 6500 (indicated) numerous times with my '78 SC motor. As "super" said the motor wont cut out 'til 7000. Ths happened to me once, but I can't tell you if I was at 7000 or 7500. I was new to the motor, and I was trying to pass a car and over did it a bit in low gear. No damage as I can tell.
