New 911 Video for download

Okay, thanks to your lovely Mr. Nostatic, I have hosted my little (cough) video on his server. Thanks, NS.

This is a 20 minute video of 911s in on a couple of Midwestern tracks - Mid-Ohio, and Putnam Park. There's also a little Autocross action, and some street driving. It's actually a fun little video with plenty of action to keep you interested. Best of all, it's free.

I will warn away the modem guys, though - this is a 220MB file! Broadband users, enjoy. Let me know what you guys think in this thread.

Download the 220MB big video here.

Download the 70MB "small" video here.

well, the Pelican media directory is now at 1.2Gig and counting. I'm converting the video to QT as we speak...should be about a 9Mb file then. I'll have to get it up remotely this evening as it won't be done rendering by the time I leave to pick up my son.

Oh sure Mark, upload a 220mb video so you can be the one to take it over 1g!

I'm on broadband but I will wait for the QuickTime version. Look forward to it! Thanks Mark!

Todd,

I was wondering if you have tried converting videos to divx instead of QT? Is there a big difference between the two in terms of quality vs size etc? I don't do any video work, hence my questions.

Thanks for converting it for us!

So, I Did It

Ok, I couldn't resist, so I pulled all 220 mb...it really only took a few minutes while I was reading some of the days posts . But I did encounter a glitch in that I now have 19 minutes, 10 seconds of audio but no video...just a black screen. Kind of reminds me of one of the old radio shows where I picture what might be happening. It's a little easier to picture at the end as I listen to the guy saying brake, shift, downshift, etc. Any ideas what's up with the video portion?

well, the first attempt failed (no picture and garbled audio), so I'm downloading the original file at home and I'll see if I can do a QT and also a Divx conversion. If I can't get it to go it will have to wait until tomorrow at work. More on this as it develops...

Uh, sorry. The file was encoded with Divx 5.0.2, so you'll have to download that from the fine folks at Divx, who make the plug-in for Media Player. I'll upload a Quicktime version real quick too, if I can.

That is a great video... I loved it. Especially the education seminar at the end.

Yeah, the little bit there at the end is pretty fun

I forgot to mention: Pelican's own forumite Eric McKenna makes an appearance in the video - I think he posts as either "stuttgart" or "dignan".

I'm encoding to Quicktime now. I'll upload it as soon as it's done.

Okay, the Quicktime version didn't work. I'll keep trying.

The 220mb version is worth it though!

I'm assuming you both have installed the Divx plugin? It's the best video plugin available. Near digital-quality video in a tiny (comparatively) download.

Eric, you should have been there when Carston and I were making it. Every time we went through that section with you in it we were cracking up....the water bottle tells the story. Guess it was a hot day

I've made some attempts with Quicktime. At agressive settings, the video is too small and the text unreadable - at less agressive settings, the text is readable but it's still at 90MB file. Let me work on it a little.

yeah, I'm rendering it 360x270, 15fps, 22kHz 16bit stereo sound (Sorensen 3 video and QMusic codecs) and it looks like it will come out at 120Mb or so. Just too damn much data...and it is taking forever running in the background (3-5 hours)

Okay, we now have the "small" video up in Quicktime format, for the Divx- and broadband-challenged among us. Still worth seeing!

Get the SMALL video here!

Great footage, Mark! I finally got the "big" one to work with the DivX player.
Cheers,
