Floor jack is going bad. Any recommendations?
My 30 year old Sears Craftsman floor jack has a death rattle. What is good and what to avoid?

I picked up a low-profile Alcan jack at Costco several years ago - no issues and reasonably priced. It's gotten lots of use under the 911...

Alcan steel low profile one from costco didn't last long for me. just returned to costco and got cash back. craftsman aluminum 1.5t out-surviving Alcan but only been 10 years.
doesn't sears take craftsman back and replace with like jack or cash?

I have this jack purchased from our host. Feels like the last jack I'll ever have to buy. I have the low profile, high lift version. Love that thing.

I picked up the HF 2 ton aluminum "racing" floor jack on sale and it works great for me. Better than my Craftsman and Husky brand jacks. Craftsman is by far the worst of the three I own.
When I was a kid Craftsman was synonymous with quality tools. Old school stuff is great. Anything made by them in the last 10 years is pretty much junk.

Usually costco has 1 or 2 decent jacks available and they come with a hassle free warranty.
When I was shopping I found that there was an Arcan 3.25 ton that I compared to everything uner $200 and it had the best combination of low profile/High reach. It was oos when I needed one so I settled for an arcan aluminum/steel 2.5 ton. Wish it rose a little higher (don't we all) but otherwise Im quite happy with it.

A couple years ago when I was on the search for a flor jack, the final three choices I came down to were the Scandanavian one sold here on Pelican, Milwaukee, or Hein Werner. Everything else is made in China and disposable. Even Snap On.

When my big ole floor jack died. Well, leaked some of the oil and the filler nut was rusted. I went the whole hog and got a scissor lift instead - I much prefer it.

I've actually had good luck with Harbor Freight floor jacks -- I think they are some of the better tools they make.
I have this one: Low Profile Floor Jack - 2 Ton, Rapid Pump® Jack I use mine a lot and I'm a pretty big fan. The low profile and long reach are great. |

Arcan
My Arcan 3.25 ton lo-pro from Northern Tool is going strong after many years. A beast weight wise, got it with a coupon for around $100 +/- as I remember. Not one to take to the track, no aluminum was harmed in its construction.

The alum Craftsman I bought a few years back went bad and was going to cost more to fix than what I paid for it. Went with a HorrorFreight one and have had no issue with it. If it ever takes a dump, I'd get another one.
I've never had a problem with the old blue Craftsman I bought over 40 years ago.

My old Craftsman fell apart after a couple of years.

I love my HF aluminum racing jack. It's light weight, works well and priced well, especially with coupons😄. Tim

Hi joe bob,
I have a similar one. I would want a lower profile one. HF has it. Quote:
