245/40R15 street track soon available?

Look at this!

Sizes | Maxxis Victra RC-1

If the pricing is anything like the 205 ($140) could be very interesting. They have no tread blocks but maybe some could be easily cut in? I wonder if they heat cycle out really fast like the hoosiers? The adds say they are built to last pretty well. At $100 a piece cheaper than hoosiers might be worth a try. 225 and 245 on my 7s and 8s would look really nice :-)

UTQG of 100. Hoosier is much lower. They "should" have similar wear as the Toyota R888.

Yes I think that is similar to the RA1s I am currently running.

I was looking at the diameter in the specs, might be too small, I need to see how they compare to a 205/55 or whatever the stock size is. Nice to have a 245 option that is not crazy expensive, I wish it was a 45 or 50 side wall instead of a 40 but I guess that is where the market is.

Big bump, for Maxxis' new 200tw street tire (apparently available now): http://www.tirebusiness.com/article/20160329/NEWS/160329952/maxxis-launching-vr-1-street-track-tire

Great! It looks like they are in an Atlanta Suburb, I wonder if I could pick up and save shipping? Probably not a good idea to put a 245 on an 8" fuch....but I want to

How much would it cost to widen my Fuchs :-)

Makes me want a set of 15x8 and 15x9's again. Maybe time to sell the 17's.

That tire has an overall diameter of 22.7 inches. Is that not too small?

Depends on your definition of "too small." I would never want it for the street, and I know Driven97 plans on carrying them unmounted in/on his car to events. There is a serious gearing and performance bump being that small of diameter, though.

Yes. Too small.

But as mentioned above, I'll be trying them for AX use.

My car, with the bumped rev limit, will go to 72 in 2nd. Most AX courses top out at ~62mph. So, the shorter tire drops 2nd to about 65 at redline (perfect) and the 10% smaller diameter gets me 10% more effective thrust - aka 10% more horsepower. Here's a theoretical thrust vs. speed chart:

Tires showed up today, first time I've received tires in boxes.

Thanks for the pictures, Matt! That 225 Rival isn't as badly stretched as I'd thought, but I look forward to the Maxxis mounted pictures.

Were they hand grooved?

Perhaps I am missing something - are you running the 225's on the 9's? If so, why not the 245's?

I reread the post, the old tires were 225's😊

As for selling the 17's, yes it would be a mistake. However the CCW 2 piece wheels get expensive with the current US exchange rate.

Read some reviews on the tires - they have been favorable. Tire is heavier than Hoosiers, but much less expensive and will last longer.

James, since you're asking about hand-grooving and noting Hoosier comparisons, you may be thinking of Maxxis's RC-1, which is their Hoosier-equivalent (not 200TW).

If you mean Detroit area, this thread is a nice place to keep track.

If you just meant more generally, typing your zip code into myautoevents.com or motorsportreg.com is a good start. If that doesn't work, do a google search for "autocross" + your closest major city.
