Windshield Wipers and Glass Care

Hi Pelicans,

Wanted to see if you all could point me in the right direction.
  • I use stoner's invisible glass for the windshield and windows, but I can't help feeling like it contributes to the film/nastiness that happens on my windshield - I don't want to use things that dry out the rubber on the gasket, like ammonia or windex. And honestly, I don't really like RainX/style products, clean glass and windshield wipers should be just fine. Any better recommendations?
  • Windshield wipers - the only ones that seem to fit are kind of cheap and chintzy - I've had this set for like 3 months and they're already smearing. Any recs here?

Thanks!

Sounds like A bit of work, but this clay bar method and waxing the windshield makes it flawless. He also suggests a non Amonia cleaner yo start. See his video on YouTube. Tim

Give the rubber blades a wipe once a while with alcohol wipes or cotton swabs dabbed with alcohol or moist hand wipes in those little square packets (like the ones you get with KFC or fast food chains work fine, some have harmless perfume but work fine), try not to put ANY dressing on dash to prevent vaporizing onto inner glass into a very fine haze from the chemicals & solvents in dressing, I switch my blades from side to side every few months to prevent "shape molding" to curve of glass (911's have a tendency to really bend/form the far left blade to glass curvature) OR just lift blades off windscreen when parked for long periods (my OCD tells me to keep the springs tension to a premium so I refrain from doing this & just switch them back & forth). Larry Kosilla of "AMMO NYC" has a great video on thorough glass cleaning (incl. clay barring, polishing etc.) check it out. In summer months or warm weather, put a sun shield inside car to prevent further hazing of interior plastics vaporizing & leaving any film. I find Rain X leaves a very fine film if not thoroughly wiped off (doesn't this retard the effect?) so I don't use it anymore. Invisible glass is good (little to no ammonia), on aircraft we use IPA ( isopropyl alcohol mixture at times with just water 50/50 or 70/30 or even 80/20 a:w) or Prist glass cleaner (safe choice for Lexan, acrylics etc.), in most cases the latter is bit pricy.

For the exterior and interior use of my windows I use the following. Adam's glass sealant HERE for the exterior. For the interior I typically use the stuff from Safelite that is a foam window cleaner. I never get foggy or a film layer that you're describing. I also use Adam's glass cleaner HERE. I love these products personally and have used them all with great results. We even have 15% off on their products from now until the 24th if anyone wants to give them a go.
