dont you just hate it when...
ok i'm going to ***** and complain so if you dont want to hear it tough luck! here goes...
a couple weeks ago i posted a WTB ad looking for rear swb quarters. this guy (let's leave him nameless for now) sends me a PM and says he has some for sale. he and i engage back and forth via email, text messages to see pics and we agree on price. he even went as far as got my home address so he could ship them to me. he then went on to say he's super busy and blah bah blah. i texted him today to see where we were at and his response is "sorry sold". WTF??? i did some poking around to see if maybe he was some sort of scammer and just phishing the WTB ads and i find out this guy has the nerve to call out other pelicans for ripping him off or leading him on/scamming him then goes and does it to others himself. what a troll... |
This is the type of seller who needs to be ID'd to save others headaches. Post it.

Get ready for the dog ate my homework excuses. |
i don't mind posting his name at all. especially after this mornings text exchange and him telling me "this is not my first rodeo". what kind of horse**** is that? if it isn't then why aren't you a man of your word? or do you just go thru life a prick?

It happens...
I had the same thing happen with a roll cage. I thought I had it bought, seller asks for my address, etc. I then see it posted for sale again... Very confusing, as I was under the impression I was buying a rollbar/cage. Seller just didn't want to ship... I get that. Once you ask for someone's address, it suggests to me a sale is pending... It happens. No grudge. That's how the Internet works... Sellers don't always want to ship... |
Happened to me too, OP. Emails galore, then, oh, it's all sold.

Everybody on this thread so far has their location listed. Bugeye, not so much. In fact, even though he or she has been posting since 2009, they don't seem to have posted on the tech forum -- which seems odd to me. I trust most people here, but maybe these are some indicators to watch??? At least no money exchanged hands. Good luck.

i get that it's the internet and all but this is pelican man not craigslist. we're all here with a common interest and that's porsche cars. fwiw, i've exchanged tens of thousands of dollars here (bought two cars sight unseen) and sold a fair amount too. you would think that the camaraderie would bring out the good in people. looking at his posts he seemed to have been a buyer and seller himself so i figured he was legit.

Being a 914 owner as well I have dealt with several vendors on 914 World and had two bad experiences with two different guys which there were several email exchanges. Luckily no money was lost but was very disappointing. The interweb is great at masking the flakes, but it tends to make the flakes flakier.

Some people just post in the for sale section. Wouldn't put as much trust on those vs. someone who regularly posts here.
They are just sellers using (taking advantage of?) the platform but not contributing to the community. Probably treats this and other sites the same. |
Hmmmm, I wonder if this "really busy" dude is in Sonoma??

just the other day he posted a WTB ad looking for swb front fenders... |
I have posted WTB stuff before. Based on my limited experiences I have already come to the conclusion that I will not deal with people with low post counts or who aren't contributing to the forum.
