Momo hub install--odd washer?

Yesterday I swapped a Momo Tuner for a Momo Retro on my '83 SC, and although I didn't technically need to remove the hub, I did to correct an annoying rubbing sound, and to check the torque on the nut. I'm glad I did, because the nut came off with almost no effort. I've never done this before, so I don't exactly know what to expect here. I could not find mention of a washer here on Pelican, or in any of the 911 schematics. I'm guessing the PO put it in there when swapping his wheel out, and as the rubber deteriorated, the nut lost its torque.

So for all you who have put Momo hubs on, does the front of the hub (the perimeter of the splined hole--yellow arrow) contact directly with the back face of the snap ring on the steering column in front of the splines? (yellow arrows point to the surfaces in questions.

This is an original 911 hub (pic borrowed from here), but looks the same as the Momo.

Anybody put one of these on before? Was there a washer on the shaft? That's basically all I'm wondering.

I'm by far no expert but when I did this on my 1985 911 I found no washer like this. Sorry I can't be too helpful, maybe someone else can chime in?

Thanks. Spoke to a CS rep at our host and hed never put a Momo on a 911. He suggested I call Momo, they also had no clue. In fact the fellow at Momo I spoke with had never installed one of their wheels. Must have been the new guy.

Well, thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to go washerless for my install.

Mystery solved!

The "washer" is the remains of the steering shaft spacer that goes within the spring that mounts on the steering wheel hub.

Oh good. Some more consensus. I just came in from installing mine. Seems fine.

Wait, what? Spring? I didn't have any spring in mine. Don't see one on the diagram either. I hope you're just messing with me.

Spring and washer may be only on earlier models. The washer should not be on the spline.

Mine had a strange washier that wasn't flat. Slight bend to it. Perhaps the prior owner over tightened it?
