Should I decide to replace the alternator in my '78SC with a new one, must I go with a trouble prone Paris-Rhone unit? Also, how can I tell if mine is internally regulated or not? Finally, can I upgrade to a higher output alternator, or would that wreak havoc on the cars electrical system?
Thanks! ------------------ Michael '78 911SC Euro |

I think that most Paris-Rhone units are replaced with Valeo units now. You may want to go with a Bosch unit, but it will probably be a bit more expensive. If your alternator is internally regulated, it will have a little black plastic box/cover on the backside. I don't think it would hurt to upgrade to say a 90-100 amp alternator, as it is the volts that will do the damage to you electrical system. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong on any of this.
