South San Diego outback.

A lot of drivers do not know about the South San Diego outback and what a great long ride it is. I just did it today. My favorite ride for 30 years!!! From Chula Vista you take Telegraph Canyon road east to Otay Lakes road. In only about 15 minutes you are in the outback! Take Otay Lakes road past Otay Lakes ( nice view) and take it all the way to old Highway 94 east. Take 94 about 7 miles to the Delzura area, keep going and you will come to the Delzura Cafe that was built in the 1920's. Every weekend they cook on red oak till 7 PM Chicken and beef taco's that are fantastic. $2 each. Sit out in front and have a soda or beer. Just did it today with the Wife. Also old 94 goes all the way to Campo (50 miles) and there is the famous San Diego Train Museum. The train ( real) runs all year long 2 hour round trip. Kids love it. also, about 25 miles east is the Barrett Junction Cafe on the left side of the road. More tasty food in the middle of nowhere!!!

Also, Julian, the San Diego mountain town is a terrific ride up Highway 67 then turns into 79 and goes through Ramona. Lots of great places to eat and stay and camp. Great apple pie! Go early and eat at the Julian Cafe in the center of town on the east side of the street. Both these places are what our cars were made for!!! Terrific roads. Lots of antique shops in Ramona.

PCA-SDR have done runs out 94 and up to Julian once and a while. Lots of nice roads in that area. Driving Tours | Porsche Club of America San Diego Region
If you live in SD and are not a member of SDR, you are missing out on a ton of great events.
Our run to Julian in '12

I went up through Escondido to Mt. Palomar, then back back down through Julian (stopped for pie!) then back down route 79 to I8 on the way home. Sunrise Highway off Rt79 is a really nice detour back to I8. I'd like to do it again at some point as i had done it when there was still a bit of snow on the ground at Mt. Palomar! Ive been through Ramona quite a few times also, i have a buddy who lives up there. Actually got a little lost on the way up and i was not at all displeased.. .

Wow! That is terrific Gordon. But I generally like to go places without 40 other Porsche cars. Just seems more relaxed to me. I think drivers are missing out by driving in a long line of cars and getting to their crowded destination. Take old 94 and get a red oak grilled taco.

I'm glad to see the "cruin' routes" are still enjoyed.
Been there many times.
You should have seen it "back in the day"

Also a buzz up interstate 8 east to the foothill town of Alpine is a nice run. There is a cool all wood inside and out frontier restaurant in town called the Montana Cafe. Best home style food in the county!! On the main drag in Alpine.

I'm with you on that. On this run we broke up into small groups. Fast enough to be fun but not crazy fast like some runs I've been on.

My best friend in HS moved to Jamual back in the day. I spent a lot of time on the east section of 94.

Was at the Julian Café yesterday for a biscuits & gravy breakfast. If you want a nice day of driving, take I-8 east to Hwy. 79 through Descanso, Pine Valley and up to the Sunrise Hwy. Cross the freeway and continue east on the old highway. Stop at the Wisteria Candy Company in Boulevard for some candy. Continue on to the Golden Acorn for an OK prime rib lunch for $7.77. After that continue on east on I-8 & stop at the Desert Tower before the road drops off into the desert. Turn north on S2 through Occotillo and on to Scissors Crossing where you turn left & up Banner Grade to Julian. Another nice trip is to turn right at Scissors Crossing & go to Borrego. There are lots of nice cruising rides around the area.
