Rear sway bar bushing fit
Good evening,
As I understand it, sway bar bushings should exert as little torque on the sway bar as possible, while keeping it firmly attached to the body and keeping it from rattling around. So should fit be like this or is it a problem? ![]() ![]() It looks like powdercoating may have added a third of a mm to the diameter. ![]() The car was ordered with sport suspension, but as far as I can tell the bar is the standard SC bar. ![]()

This is a strange thing with the rear sway bar bushings, i had the same problem with the 21mm rear sway bar on my '88. The ID of the bushing is just too small. I verified the bushings were correct and also checked the bar with a caliper. After searching i saw this had come up a number of times for others with various rear sway bar diameters.
I bored out the inside of the bushing to get close to the 21mm OD of my rear sway bar. The bushing deformed significantly when tightening the clamp otherwise. I wondered if the molds for the bushings were off, but the bushings i had were OE Porsche. Would love to know an explanation for this if anyone has one.

Supposed to be a tight pressure fit. The rubber gives within the housing but the tighter the better.

I went 1mm larger bushing and fits like it is supposed to.

A couple of minutes with a rat tail file will do.

On the bushing? I've never filed rubber before. Never thought to.

They're tight. Don't forget to use a dab of white lithium grease between bushing and bar.

Why lithium grease? I never have understood when to use what grease.
