Fuel Sending Unit -- cap on bottom?

Does the sending unit have a cap on the bottom?

I pulled mine from my 85 911 tank and it's in pristine condition but the bottom of the pipe was open -- I think this is leading the center sliding pole to be able to shift and that allows the float to stick on the side of the tube.

I guess I'm going fishing with a magnet in my tank?

The bottom piece on the sending unit in my 73 is a plastic disk that fits inside the tube. About 1/4" thick and might have been red or brown when new.

Thanks so much

Wonder where mine went.

the bigger concern is the little nut and washer that hold the cup in place. The cup is sitting at the bottom of the tank.

Well I hunted with a magnet coat hanger tool - OEM Porsche tool of course - and there's no hint of a nut or bolt and as best as my eyes could see with flashlight -- not well -- there's no cap in there.
To me that's the good news - I just need to hit a salvage yard for the bottom of a sending unit

Now why did I pull my radio and speakers while checking all that? Bored I guess :)

Can make something?
Right, that long center stud is centered on the round end cap.
