Too bad you didn't address some of this stuff when you had the engine out to put in the new clutch. If it were me I would look into a decent, documented used 3.0. I think there was one on the parts board here for $4K. You can do an engine swap in a long Saturday with the help of a Pelican with a garage and your core 3.0 is probably worth enough to get the tranny fixed. I would do the motor, put in the Swepco, and make sure your clutch is adjusted right. I bet you can milk that tranny for several more years.

I did not do the clutch myself, a mechanic did it. I asked him about the tranny at the time, and he said it would be $2000 to just open it...the clutch was already $1600, so I said fughedaboudit. At this rate, I `d have spent 10 grant for all the work...

Do the tranny flush, and then switch to Swepco like Superman said. Then check your linkage.
As for the motor, you can rebuild it in your house. RoninLB did, upstairs even:D . I wish I had half the courage he has, to takle the jobs he does. |
The tranny is actually not that bad. Some grinding if I shift too fast, but I agree that Swepco is the way to go. I`d be doing all that if it was not so cold outside ! I have a basement where I could work on the engine, but I would have to drop it outside... I have driven 4000 miles since I discovered the broken headstuds 5 months ago...it may have been even more. Now, I feel it is time to do something.

I had an oil leak too. turned out be be hoses and the oil sender unit and the blowby hose. It looked like a big deal.I paid a guy to drop the engine I didn't have the tools at the time. cost $400 with oil and it was fixed.
