Ventilation via "air outlet vents"

My problem is that I get virtually no fresh air flow from either the side or center air outlet vents on the dash or from the footwell air outlets. I have the control levers all positioned as outlined in the owner's manual. The fresh air blower is functional and all the levers are attached and moving appropriately. When the fresh air blower is in the full on position, I hear a lot of air blowing somewhere, but it does not come through the dash vents. The air conditioning controls work fine and cooled air flows from the dash vents. Should I look for a disconnected duct up front? Thanks.

If the A/C system is configured the same (Besides the center vent size & ducting) as my 78, you will only get air out of the center dash vent when the A/C is on.

What I did on my 78, was modify the fresh air ducting so that it blows out the center vents. The only problem is that you always get a little bit of fresh air, even with the blower turned off.

I'm sure the process is different than on my car, but I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to do some re-routing of ducts, to do this on your car.

Thanks, Matt. The AC works fine. I can't get adequate fresh air flow (non-air conditioned) through any of the vents.

Check in the luggage compartment to make sure your hoses are all hooked up to the vents. You may just be blowing the air around the boot/trunk.

my 87 is the same way, however, i dont think there is anything wrong. according to the manual, you can direct the fresh air to come out up top (through the defrogger vents near the windsheild) or through the bottom (the footwell vents). the dash vents are for a/c only.

The manual states that fresh air can be directed through the dash vents. I have checked this carefully.

Unless they made a change in '87, you can only get fresh air thru the defrost vents or the heat vents. The dash vents are strictly for the air conditioner. Completely different set of ducts.

I have an 88. I can tell you with 100% certainty that the only places that fresh "vent" air will come out is the footwells and the windshield defrost vents in a stock configuration ('87 could be different, but I really don't think so). Heat can come out of the defrost, footwell, and the two side vents near the doors, and the AC will come out of the dash vents only. The center vent is setup for AC. Unless you have an aftermarket AC in which case things may be different.

I'm assuming you have AC. If you don't then fresh 'outside' air should come out the centre vents.

Thanks for all the responses. I checked everything out and all hoses, etc., are tight. Air does flow from the defrost and from the footwell vents. I guess that's the way it's designed with AC, but the manual sure is misleading.
