Recaro Question: Profi or PP?

Unfortunately there is not a single dealer near by I can go check out, therefore I decided to send some questions to you guys. Sure some experts here with these.

I am 6.1" and 170lbs, wide shoulders. All i have been told was PPs were too narrow for longer folks. Profi has 2 versions, one being XL. I am afraid those would be problematic with clearence since I am buying a pair.

What do you guys have, pics, and possible your weight etc.

Also some advice on sliders and mounting would be great as well.

Thanks so much in advance.

There are many things that affect fit

width at the center of the bolsters
PP 430mm
Profi XL 430
Profi 395

#1 is going to be hips, I'm 34" at the hips and fit PP to be fine, maybe a bit loose. Profi XL will be similar but regular Profi too tight. I'f memory serves Sparco EVO2 is a bit better, I was in an OMP last week that was perfect but can't recall the model, I find most OMP to not fit well, but this one was great.

#2 is the taper. I find the XL to be fine at the back but due to the relation between the seats and controls I find a pressure point on the outer left thigh, a few inches above the knee, I think that the taper in the Sparcos better accommodates the seat/control misalignment found in 911s

#3 is shoulder hole size and position, W/ a harness you need a straight unfettered run from the top of the Hans to the roll bar attachment point. For a tall driver ~6' up the holes on a PP don't line up well, same w/ Profi, The large holes on XL are great, as are the large holes on Sparco Evo2

Given the expense it's worth some extra hassles to sit in as many seats as possible

XL fits fine in a 911-993, I wouldn't want to fit a seat bigger than these. in height and shoulder width.

Bill I think I will go with Evo IIs. Did you have experience with these?

I'm roughly your size and had Pole positions in my '71 for several years, really really liked them a lot, super comfy. The only reason I switched for something else was that they're not compatible with a HANS Device

I've been in cars w/ them, seems to me that they are a tad tighter than PP, they were nice! The big holes help w/ the shoulder harness issues too.

Has Recaro fixed the Pole Position design and regained FIA certification? That's kind of a big red flag to me, when making a decision like this.

FWIW, I like the Evo series also... much easier to get a good fit, (4 sizes available) and nicer covers for the money than the Recaros.

yes, the new PP N.G. has the FIA cert.

so after talking to a Recaro dealer in length I decided to order 2 Profi spg XLs with mounts and sliders. I will post pitures when the install is finished. I am going to use BK harness bar and Schroth Profi II 6 Hans with F.E. Cam lock.

looking forward to know what you think of them.

Another point is your own unique body shape. I'm 6' 170#, but I have the long torso stubby leg Italian thing, so it's hard to find a seat with high or large enough harness apertures. I've got multiple 6'3"+ friends that are shorter than me when we sit down

This.

The Evo I just installed would not work with harnesses, even though the seat itself fits me well. My shoulders totally obscure the harness holes, but I agree with Bill about the bolsters being well set-up for this chassis. For a future serious install with harnesses I'd be looking at the Profi XL as my #1 choice.
