911 from wholesale auction?
Rennlist has a wholesale auction section. I have not seen it, since I let my membership lapse.
Are wholesale auctions a good place to find older 911s? I am looking for an older 911 (72-83), and my budget is around $10k. Take care, Jurgen |

I saw something about this too. I thought the deal with wholesale auctions was dealer-dealer. It doesn't make since that they would offer those prices to the public? Why don't they just wholesale them on ebay. If you are a dealer and willing to let it go to someone in the general public for wholesale price, why not put it where it will get he most exposure? I would love to be able to buy Porsches at wholesale prices, but this seems to good to be true?
Anyone else know about it?

Don't worry about trying to find an older 911 there. I'm a member, and all I have seen in the last month since this auction site started are a lot of BMW's and newer Porsche's.

The Mannheim Exotics auction is held every two weeks in PA. Its a wholesale auction, and typically draws around 5,000 cars. Quite an experience to see around 20 auction lines running in parallel, with a strict two minutes per car.
The only players are registered dealers. I go there with a dealer, who will buy anything for a $500 fee. The majority of the cars are high-end non-domestics, typically off auction [2-3 years old], which means lots and lots of 996s and 996 turbos, which go fairly cheap. Sprinkled in are a very few examples of older cars which are trades or are carried in by a dealer on consignment. Just for fun, there are a very few true exotics - Aston Martins, Ferraris, Lambos, and some true collector cars. Wholesale auctions can turn up some good deals, but inspection is limited to what you can see in the paddock - no chance to drive or PPI the cars. Its a risky game. I'd expect a dealer to want to see a higher margin for allowing the kind of inspection/test drive most Pcar buyers would demand.

Jurgen,
BTW, Got your email this morning.... Wholesale auctions are fast paced sales where prior inspection is limited to firing the car up and driving it around a parking lot. Forget about a PPI. The auctions are usually limited to licensed dealers. SOME dealers will allow you to go with them and watch the show and then add a predetermined percentage to the price. Me? I look for cars private party, do a PPI, take tons of pics and negotiate the sale for you. I can also arrange storage, shipping, and insurance. You CAN get a good deal from an auction, but it is a crapshoot. Mike Z 9 Eleven Motors CA Dealer #55389 |

Thanks for the comments, guys. I really want to own a special (at least in my mind) 911, so I don't think a wholesale auction will meet my needs.
I'm looking for a Mexico Blue 911, so keep your eyes peeled, guys and gals. ![]() Jurgen |
