Availability of heated seat elements from Porsche
The heating function of the driver's seat on my '86 turbo crapped out a while back and I finally got around to pulling the seat out to troubleshoot it. Naturally, instead of a simple switch or relay problem, the heating element in the backrest has an open circuit. I took a quick look in PET, and on this site, and I don't see a separate heating element listed. What I see instead is a choice of seat covers, with or without a heating element.
Can Porsche have been dumb enough to not make the heating elements available separate from the cover? Anybody been down this road before? It's a sport seat, if that matters. Thanks, Jeff |

The heating elements are available separately. They are however stitched into the cover, so that replacing them is likely best left to an upholsterer. It is not so bad work for a pro, actually. The main hurdle is having a stron enough sewing machine.

Having the work done is no problem. I just can't find the elements in PET. Any idea where Porsche hides them? Thanks, Jeff |

The ones on Ebay would be a definite improvement anyway.

There are several ebay options. Does anybody have any good experiences with the various types for sale?
My '69 could use some butt warmers, and my wife's Honda Fit NEEDS some. -Dan |

Been looking at some seat warmers as well, now that I'm in a cooler climate. Problem is, gotta pull the seat and skin back the leather covers. Dunno if I want to tackle that.
The GMC Yukon has em, nice and it has snow tires......decisions, decisions.....

91165390200, backrest element, up to '88
91165390100, seat element, up to '88 These are in the PET catalog dedicated to seats. For 89 and up, replace "911" with "964."

Graham,
Thanks very much for the help. I didn't realize there was a separate section on seats. It seems odd, in that it duplicates the seat information in the regular section of PET for the most part. I wonder why they did that... JR |

I'm looking to replace the heating elements in my 88 Cab when I get the seats reupholstered. The part numbers above are NLA from most places. I did find them for sale at ECS tuning online for ~$350. Seems steep. Anyone ever purchase any aftermarket heating elements that will work with factory heated seats -- without rewiring? I assume you could splice the wiring in an aftermarket element, but I would like to know somewhat has done it before with success, first. Thanks!

Bumping this thread as I have the same question as COLB. I'm about to reupholster my factory heated seats and would like to add heat elements that work with the factory wiring/switches. Can I just use a generic heating element?
