Park Brake, Stuck on, Cable is loose!??

Some advice please. Long story short......right hand side park brake shoes have seized/stuck on. The cable is loose, so no tension there. It's so tight I cannot even get the disc off to have a look at the mechanism. I have wound back the adjusting cog so that it is completely undone but I fear that it is the other side, where the cable attaches to the castellated nut, that has become 'wedged' in position. ![]() Things I have tried so far that haven't worked. (Very late last night) 1) Re-tightened the cable and pulled up on the brake lever many times. No luck. 2) Tried rotating the disc on the axle shaft nut with a meter long breaker bar. No luck. 3) Tapped the (brand new) disc with a nice soft mallet and asked it very nicely to come off. No luck.Spent the night dreaming about this cock up hence my post here first thing this morning. Things that I am planning to do after work tonight. 1) Try to pull the disc off using a couple of large pipe clamps. I can use an old disc up against the wheel nut studs as a hard point to pull against. This may knacker my disc back plate though... 2) Cut the disc off, (somehow) buy a new one and then sulk for a few days. 3) Crack open the Whiskey and hope that it will fix itself. Any views, comments or suggestions are welcomed. Cheers, Jason.

Wow, if the drum is so firmly wedged on that you cannot get it to budge either way with a metre long breaker bar then something is well jammed. Maybe one of the butterfly mechanisms has gone over centre, so if you loosen the cable off can you move the spacer tube enough to get a screwdriver in there? Its surprising that with the adjuster backed right off you cannot move the disc/drum by winding in 2 x bolts into the holes provided for levering the assembly off.
Brute force may be needed, can you reassemble with the adjuster still loose and use the engine to get some movement, maybe in reverse? The whisky will not hurt, so try that first.

Thanks for your reply. As you mentioned I think that it has to be the butterly assy that has become jammed. The cable is loose and there is play on the spacer tube so I will try going in that way tonight. Good idea. The car is up on my lift so when down on the wheels there is no space to go in reverse. It has to go forwards but I really do not want to go this route as I am about to complete a full front and rear suspension, brake and driveshaft rebuild. Not the way I had imagined my first drive out of the garage to be. ![]() Where's that Whiskey?
