Throttle linkage mounting plate push rod

This is a pushrod of some sort that mounts behind the cruise control throttle cable attachment next to the throttle body on top and at the bottom to a throttle linkage plate. I adjusted it out (longer) about 1/4 inch last night and it did not seem to have any effect that I noticed. What is the purpose of adjusting it? Hard to see back there.

Thanks

My first thought is that that rod ultimately connects the gas pedal to the throttle body.
That being said, with the gas pedal all the way in (pedal to the metal) the rod should be adjusted so the throttle body is fully open.

If I'm wrong I expect I'll be corrected soon enough.

I believe you are correct. However my concern is at the opposite end of this linkage travel. Could this rod be responsible for my persistent 1100 rpm idle? In either case would like to know how to make sure it is adjusted correctly.
Thanks

I don't drive a 3.2 but I'll try to help by offering a few suggestions.

First off I would disconnect the linkage at the throttle body to see if the throttle linkage is putting a pre-load on the throttle body.
The throttle linkage should line up with the linkage on the throttle body. Just assure yourself the throttle linkage isn't forcing the throttle open, even just slightly.

If they line up perfectly I think you can assume the higher revs are not caused by the throttle linkage forcing the throttle valve open. (even just slightly).

On the 3.0 engines there is a screw in the area of the throttle body that will adjust the idle up or down slightly. Verify if you have some such screw and try lowering your idle speed that way.

Surely someone with a 3.2 can help you better than I can.

Good luck

Maybe I'm missing something, but......why not start it up, then pop the linkage off the throttle body, and...if the idle drops from 1100, there's your answer.

maybe I missed something? which is entirely possible, but what made you think it needed to be adjusted? were there symptoms you've not shared here that lead you to believe it needed to be fiddled with?

usually if there is slop in any of the 911 linkage, especially ours that can be 40-50 years old it's more about bushings than adjustment. id say as a rule unless you are doing major mods there is no reason to adjust one of the linkage parts you show.

ive messed with those before having moved to carbs on a couple cars and they can be one of those things that just when you think you have the angle and length figured out you run out of rod...
