Speedo Cable to Trans/Box Nose Cone Connection - Removal

I snapped the connection on my nose code (73 915), i gave it a blast of super freeze, but didnt realise how brittle they are.

The threads of it are still stuck in this piece. When you undo the big nut, does it leave a long piece (adapter) which then also screws in the nose cone? Or is the big nut part of the whole piece. I can't find a part number for it (ive found one for the nose cone).

any ideas?

what im trying to figure out, is if the big nut, is attached to a piece about 1" long? In other words if i turn the nut it turns the whole 1" piece? If i cut the cable, will it come with this piece?

Or is the big nut threaded into the 1" piece which is then threaded into the speedo cable connection on the nose cone I.e the 1" piece is an adapter/spacer?

I'll have a better look at it tonight

Hi John

thats along the lines of what i'm also realising. Bummer too =(

My question was with regard the bit nut - and was this one large piece (see circuled in red). I think i can assume the original speedo cables, have this large piece, as it looks to be one long 1" piece, and the new cables - have a smaller piece (basically just a nut) - thats how they look in photos. I have to buy one anyway, so i'll do so and take it from there.

In your opinion - is it reasonable to repair the broken nose cone, with a specially machined alunium (or brass) insert threaded at both ends (threads into cone) and threaded to accept the speedo cable with seal. As the cone is broken anyway, im thinking i might give it ago.
