964 to RSR in Excellence

I was at the local Barnes and Nobles today and came across the April edition of Excellence (which hasn't arrived in my mailbox yet) and saw a 964-turned-RSR clone in there...nice article too.

Is this a good idea to do? What do you guys think? Should I give up on the backdating my SC thing and use a 964 instead? It would have the 3.6 engine I'd want in it...

If you had the $$$ to do it, that's probably the best idea. Best of both worlds. You could even start with a 965 and you would already have the wide body.

That's always been the problem..I've NEVER had the money to do what I want...with anything!

Only reason I'm going to college is so I can hopefully get a good enough job that'll pay me well so that I can finally afford to do some things to my cars!

Back in the day guys were updating the early cars to look like Turbos, 964s, and 993s. Now, guys are backdating the later cars to look like the early cars. What's wrong with the world?

I must say, Porsche Doc did a GREAT job on the car. My only gripe would be that the interior still looks like a giant turd...especially when compared to the fit and finish of rest of the car. And what's with that steering wheel?

This fad will also pass with time I suspect, and stock cars will become rarer and more desirable. But OTOH people should do what they want with their cars. It's their car, and their $$$.

The plans for the car are to find someone to give it a nice new home. Sometime this spring.

The interior is the original leather Mahogany color from the factory and is in very good condition.
The steering was sent out to Allen Gunn and recovered.
I didn't have time to get it redone before Zack was here. Sorry!

This car was built to be a comfortable every day driver with all the fufu. AND it is just that.

it's my prediction that 964 cupcar 'clones' will start becoming a bit more abundant out there not unlike rs clones have been for some time now... if you start w/ a 964 now, you can take your time w/ it and still be ahead of the game...

w/ the prices for 964's dropping more and more, it will make sense to rip one apart, gut it, put in a cage, etc etc... the $$ will determine how "correct" of a cupcar replica it will be. the rsa's stay inflated for some inane reason but that's fine. a 1/2 price 964 that uses the 'rest' of the funds for the really important, no-compromise build will leave you w/ a car that substantially outperforms an rsa, w/o feeling guilty for tearing apart a clean car.

I think the CAR looks GREAT!!! Please, please don't overlook that comment.

All I was trying to say is that I just don't think that the current interior deserves to be in a car that looks that good.

Yep! We did one a few years ago.
It only had 52K miles when we riped it up.

Is it just me or is Excellence more of a Porsche owners mag than Panorama? I'm in BMWCCA and their mag, Roundel, is more along the lines of Excellence than Panorama. Roundel isn't afraid of pointing out BMW problems.

Panorama definitely needs help. Terrible magazine. The good stuff is too short on detail.


PorscheDoc i was excited to see that car in Excellence as well. 'I know this car!' i proudly told my wife. She, of course, thinks i'm a wacko since i never actually 'met' the car.

I did kind of cringe when i saw the interior though.

But you REALLY do have a good eye for exteriors!

Porsche magazines are like beer -- more is better! If you think Panorama is bad (too 'loyal'), check out the Audi Club magazine. Granted, they're getting by with many fewer members and advertisers, but almost without exception it reads like something from AoA marketing or customer relations!
