Console Switch Tabs Broken: Creative Solution Anyone?
 

Re-carpeting my '87 Cabriolet, and I've got the console out but, naturally, whomever removed the console when a PO had new carpets put in broke all 4 tabs on the mirror heater and hazard switches in the console as pictured here: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1334603292.jpg

The tab that holds the rear edge of the console down to the floor was also busted off, but that's an easy fix. What I need is a creative solution to hold those switches in. I'm thinking I'll use some silicone behind the switch bezels - that way they could be worked loose in the future if needed - but the wisdom on this forum is amazing, and I figure someone's got a better solution. I'm sure other pelicans have encountered this - any suggestions?

My hazard switch was falling out of the dash due to broken tabs, and to fix it I put cable ties on the backside, cinched them snug, pushed them all the way to the front, and then cranked them down hard.

You can double it up (two cable ties one behind the other) if you want extra security. Has held up great on my hazard, not sure if it would work on those switches or not.

I thought about the pull-tie solution, I even gave it a half-baked attempt but it wasn't working out very well. No other thoughts from the panel of experts? I have to imagine that Pelicans have encountered this one over and over again.

Just completed interior upgrade & had same problem. I removed center console bracket for easier access. I wrapped both switch with 1/16" thick rubber strips ( approx. 1/2" wide), then secured in place with small hose clamp. Reconnecting wiring connections is PITA-but doable. Sorry I didn't take any pix.

Use that super sticky weatherstripping caulk that's used around the vapor barrier for doors. I also use a bit of it on the tip of my screwdrivers when installing/removing screws to keep them from dropping.

Resurrecting thread because I have this identical issue. Any new suggestions?

I have this issue on my Hazard switch and use the method described by jlex. Its worked like this for many years w/o issue.
