930 floating front rotor assembly - how??
i want to attach the rotors to the hats, i have all the right bits but don't know what to do with them:(
its not that obvious looking at them.... anyone got pics or diagrams, or instructions??? cheers:) |
uh, I am not sure how to answer. The dogs are bolted to the hat with the rotor between. Sort of. Then the hat is bolted to the hub. I don't have a pic. I did it before I had a digital camera. The rotor rides on the dogs loosely.

thanks, but no, not really, i have only a two piece assembly. i think i have a problem with the "dogs" as they don't fit the rotor (disk!). these are oe rotors as well, so i am a bit surprised. cheers |
Dickster, are you building a track car? VCI and Porsche don't recommend floating rotors for the street. The rotors make a lot of noise as they move on the hats.

to be honest its not an issue for me. my everyday transport is a sports bike, so i only cover around 5k in the car per year. i'm used to the noise of floating rotors from my bike. it was too expensive going non-floating. this way i get to use the std 930 rotors - which btw were floating!! its a pretty uncivilised ride anyway, so it ain't gonna make much diff!! i don't think i'll hear them over the muffler. cheers |

You can file the slots or the dogs a little to make them fit. And don't worry about the noise from the floating rotors. It's a bunch of hooey. |

Those floating rotors seem like a good idea. However it seems that they would wear as they "float" on those little rectangular retainers, eventually getting sloppy on the hubs.
Perhaps the wear rate on the rectangles is slower than the pad friction surface, such that the rotors are replaced before it becomes significant? Do you guys with floaters notice "looseness" over time? |
