WANTED: MFI tech in SE Michigan (Detroit area)?

Looking for a shop or individual who knows MFI inside and out, and is willing deep dive a system starting when its still on the car. I know I can remove the pump and ship it out, but I would like to start with it installed.

Looking in the Detroit Metro or Mid-Michigan areas to start.

Steve

Jeff Jones at Automotive Techniques? He was an actual Porsche tech back in the day and runs most of his business on his knowledge from then. Great, great guy.

Never been there, but recently I called him inquiring about a timing belt change on a potential Ferrari 355 purchase. I wasn't impressed by the response.

His website looks more targeted at normal maintenance items and aftermarket bit installations.

My .02, since I've been down this road, learn it yourself. It will seem daunting at first but if you read through the stuff on this forum, by Lee Rice, Grady Clay, Warren, and others, then let is stew around in your head for a while it will begin to make sense. Be prepared that when you post a question you will get the patented response of "have you done CMA?". Although correct, it may not seem helpful. If you just approach the entire system from the separate parts it really is not that hard to figure out.

I've had my car in 2 different shops and neither were able to thoroughly sort out the system. One guy got close but I've had to get it over the finish line.

One thing for sure, either get new injectors or get them clean. I just bought and used an ultrasonic cleaner from Harbor Freight, the one with heat. Also bought a injector tester that is pressurized from a guy at this web site: mercedessource.com. This thing was huge in my understanding of what was wrong with my injectors, mainly dirty, and how to clean them avoiding buying new at $800 or more.

I had Jerry Fairchild rebuild my pump, mainly due to his quick turn around time.

Its been a couple of year road but I now know how the system works and have pretty good ability to work on it / diagnose problems. Very gratifying.

Man, you need to have a conversation with Jeff Jones about your PORSCHE, not a Ferrari. You've got it backwards: he's a PORSCHE air cooled guru; he works on other cars to help his customers with "normal maintence" on those. He did a full engine rebuild for me, and let me come in on Saturdays, etc. to learn in the process. He's forgotten more stuff than you or I will ever hope to know. Sorry you got a bad first impression, but he's the best in town.
