Lowering Power Windor on Removed Door
I purchased my beautiful 1983 SC Cab from the insurance company after it was totaled. (A 20 year old uninsured punk decided to run a light and T Bone me)
I proceeded to remove every usable part off the car (Anyone need rear quarter panels?) The problem, My passenger door which survived the accident scott free. Unfortunately the window was UP and I want to store it in the down position. Can I hotwire the door to activate the regulator to lower the door? (without removing door panels) What wires to I tap into? What power source should I use? Thanks Guys

Thanks Joe Bob
I'll take the switch out tonight and make it happen. By looking at your schematic It looks like I can do this directly from the switch and do not need to bother with the pigtail coming out of the door hinge. Regards

don't know if it will matter for you or not but in my 83 unless the switches on the driver's door are connected as well as the passenger the window won't work. good luck.

Ahhh. Now that you mention it I had that problem when I was putting in the door panels.
So the question is how do I jump/bridge the pigtail coming out of the hinge to make the passenger door work? Looks like this may be a brain stumper for a while

there are two wires going to the motor. they are the middle two on the switches. take them off the switch and jump 12v and ground to them. swap the wires to make the window go the other way.

John,
If you don't mind a little clarification. Do I apply + and - to the middle wires to lower window or bridge them together. Put a power lead on them then ground on bare metal? Thanks

there are two wires going to the motor, in each door at the switch , Color is black for one , and blue for the other. One goes to ground and the other goes to positive, depending on up or down desired. No bridging ! no brown or reds involved for this process

Thanks Dave.
Once I get the window down I'll have more room for my next project car.

I started another thread about having the driver side switch plastic disintegrate (old age). I just need a temporary fix while I'm on the road with no tools. The passenger switch has no power with the driver switch "open".

I'm working from a phone and wasn't able to zoom in on this helpful diagram. I got out of hand held mode and that allowed me to zoom Very helpful, but still use advice on how to jump the switch to energize the passenger side switch.

Update
I was able to lower my window using the method suggested by TRE Cup and John Walker.
Using a transformer which had 12 VDC 1.5 amp output I was able to get the window to lower 1/4" at a time. The window did not go up an down smoothly as it did when it was installed in the car. I needed connect the power, let the window go down 1/4", then wait 4 seconds and repeat. After repeating this procedure for 5-6 minutes the window completely went down. The window probably retracted only 1/4" at a time due to the transformer I was using. Perhaps 1.5 amps wasn't enough power. Considering some batteries have 1000 amp capacity for 30 seconds, I suspect the transformer I was using was slightly under power, but with patience I got the window down. Hope this helps

Sorry but I'm still foggy on exactly what wires need to be contacted to raise and lower the window with a damaged switch. I hear no "jumping" is required but what wire needs to touch what to raise and lower? I'm on the road and don't have extra wire, only a paper clip.

I lowered the power window on my '88 a week ago when I got a rag stuck in it and the switch wouldn't work. Used the hex key provided in the tool kit. I took the small speaker cover off, inserted the hex key, then simply wound it down mechanically. Look in your manual for directions.

Yesterday in a driving rain (desperation time) I was able to take some duct tape and stick the two metal contacts from the trashed switch to the tape. Stuck the works into the switch, got lucky and got the window up. Now that I'm home I did it again a bit more carefully and was able raise and lower the window...at least until I can get a replacement switch. Thanks for the help all!
