Is a convertible eligible?
I'd like to attend a DE, but I've read that some places do not allow convertibles? Are there DE's in the Baltimore/DC area that allows convertibles?
If a helmet is required, will my full face motorcycle helmet work? Thanks!

I think it depends on the organization and/or the track. Out here, all of the tracks that I know of will allow convertibles with a roll bar, and the pop-up bars in the later cars seem to be acceptable.
As for the helmet, it's the same story. Some groups will allow anything except the Harley Beanie helmets, others require SA 95 or newer.

This is taken from the Potomac registration form:
"ROLL BARS - All open top cars (e.g., cabriolets) and all cars that exceed the modifications permitted for the “Stock“ and “Prepared” classes per PCA club race rules (i.e., would be classified GT-1 through GT-6) must have roll bars that meet club race specs for materials, design, installation, and height. Top of the main hoop must be at least two inches above the driver’s/passenger’s helmet when seated in the normal driving position. (Details in Appendix A of Club Race rules.) Integral roll bar in the 986 and pop-up roll bar in the 996 cabriolet are acceptable, subject to two inch height requirement specified above. 914’s, Targas, and 986 w/ hard top in place do not require roll bars. (Note: Roll bars in cars not requiring roll bars are not subject to the above requirements, but must be sufficiently secure to not become missiles in an accident.)" The entire form can be found at http://www.pcapotomac.org/Drivers_Education/2002PotomacTechForm.pdf hope this helps! |

Some will also require arm restraints and may not allow you to run with the top down....top up does not give you any protection, but they do require it in some places.....

Thanks for the replies..
Now the next question....
Is there a roll bar that bolts or weld in that still allows the use of the rear seats. On occasion I like to take my wife and little girl out for a ride and do not want to lose the back seats.

Not a five point bar....the cross brace and the side mounts usually interfere,,,,,,you "could" unbolt and remove it after every event....

I don't think you need to have a full Club Race cage or anything to run DE events for PCA Potomac. As long as you pass the inspection I think you are fine. Contact John Brown or Don Newton for the specifics...you can find links to their e-mail at: http://www.pcapotomac.org/pca/html/deguys.shtml
Helmets are another story, for our region I am almost positive you can't use a motorcycle helmet ![]() Nathan

I purchased a Das-Sports roll bar that mounts to the seat belt anchors front and rear. Easy in, easy out. Can't use the back seat though when the bar is in the car!
