Need Help With 911 Part ID

It's amazing, the little obstacles I run into as I continue to reassemble my car. For the life of me, I can't remember/figure out what part 21 is in the following diagram, and I don't seem to see anything familiar on my shelves and boxes of parts. My parts book lists this piece as "protective strip", p/n 911.555.375.40. I think (not certain) this part is used on 1974-1989 cars. If someone could describe the appearance and placement of this protective strip on their car, or , perhaps post a picture, I'd be grateful. Thanks in advance.

Hi Bob

I too have a '74 in parts in the garage. I have just check the box of front end parts, but don't appear to have that part either!

Hi Nick,

I remember the pics of your beautiful Carrera, albeit somewhat in pieces also! Hopefully someone will recognize the part we both seem to have trouble locating. I'm wondering if, perhaps, it was never installed to start with?

Bump

Bump, with all due respect...just need someone to look at their car to answer this one. Thanks for your help!

if i'm correct that looks like it could be some sort of seal that covers the front latch assembly (part18) below the hole for the hood latch (part 14).
i'll be in the garage tonite and will have a look at my 85', hopefully someone will have a deffinate answer before then though:)

Thanks, Bell. Hope you can describe what/where this part is 'cause I'm striking out trying to figure it out

Still hoping someone can look at their car and describe the protective strip (part 21) identified in the first post of this thread.
Thanks for any help!

I'll take a look at my '83 in a few hours and see what I can figure out.

I looked and can't find it.........Ron

Okay, I've conducted a little research for this part. It shows up in PET on model years up to 77, so it disappears with the SC for some reason. That might explain why all of the SC and later owners have not found this part. Not sure how early it shows up, but it is on the '74.

Thanks for taking the time to look, Ron. And thanks Mark for researching the part. What is the PET that you checked? Sounds like something I need to get.

Bob, Just sent you a PM.

magilla 12-23-2002 06:53 PM

You guys already figured out I wouldn't , but I couldn't find anything on my SC. Sorry.

911 555 375 40
"protective edging" is what PET calls it.
i can't remember what it is either.

1974carrera 02-05-2003 06:20 AM

I ordered the part in question (protective edging, p/n 911.555.375.40, list price $3.49) and thought I'd share pics of it. Interestingly, the bag that the part came in from Porsche labels the part as "Fender Trim" even though it lists the same part number. Now that I have it, I still haven't quite figured out exactly where it fits. From the parts diagram at the beginning of this thread it seems to be located somewhere around the front trunk latch. If this looks familiar to anyone I'd sure like to know where it fits. If nothing else, I guess this would make a good item on a 911 trivia test.
