3.6 (SAI) Secondary Air Injection location
I think I have an issue with the SAI in my car. This is a recent 3.6 rebuild and transplant. Car was running fine then developed what sounds like an exhaust leak or vacuum leak on the left bank. I notice in the back of the engine by the left bank, there are two threaded ports that are open. Perhaps a plug fell out. This looks concerning. There is mild pressure coming from them at idle (You can feel it with your fingers). Is this for SAI? I bought the plugs from Patrick Motorsports but they are too big in diameter and do not fit those holes, so I'm not sure if I am chasing a SAI issue or something else. Thanks.

If you have it, the pump sits under the intake in the center right towards the back of the engine and most of the plumbing is on the back right corner near #6 plug. I wouldn't imagine why someone would keep the SAI system on a car that doesnt need it. Assuming its gone, there are a port on each head that would need to be blocked off. Right by the #1 and #6 intake runners. Basically the system takes air from the intake and injects it into the heads and it comes out through a port on the exhaust side of the head and exits through the headers and out the tail pipe.

Thank you for the information. Based on the information you gave me and the pictures I have which show two open ports located in he back of the engine by #3 (not #1 and #6), I think I have a different issue - I don't think this is a SAI issue after all. I'm not sure what supposed to go in those two ports. I need to find that out. I may have to re-post with a more meaningful subject to find that out. Thanks again.

Thanks guys, I'm all fixed up. Sure enough, the #3's plug was missing. that was my issue. Thanks again!

What are you talking about? Air injection certainly does not give you 10 more HP or mid range torque. If anything, it hurts performance. It's strictly for emission purposes and on a car that doesn't run OBDII, what's the point? This is why most people want the Euro version that doesn't have SAI.. |

My thought is Nine9six is confusing SAI with VarioRam...possibly heavy on the after dinner drinks...
