This has gotta be one expensive part ...

I stopped by the local dealer yesterday for kicks and picked up the Porsche Tequipment 911 - Accessories for the 911 (Type 996) catelog.

On page 19 is part number 000-044-100-12 which is the Carrera Powerkit. This kit includes "a new alloy induction manifold, cylinder heads, exhaust manifolds and camshafts, as well as revised engine management software." The claim is that this kit will increase model year 02 and newer hp from 320 to 345.

Any ideas on what this "part" must cost? I might just have to call the dealer tomorrow to satisfy my curiosity.

I'll bet on $12,000.

Doug, the amusing thing is we can get the same number of extra horsepower with SSIs and a cam grind.

Bill SC guy.

i'll have my roomate (porsche parts guy) look up the number tomorrow:)

Doug,

This month's Excellence says that option is $13,990. If you have to ask...

Chris.

Well, you should check out the price for the turbo equivalent. It's about $20,000.

How about NOS 935 drive axles?

Anyone tried modifying 911 axles to use a guibo? Seems like it would make sense..

Thom, what is a guibo?

kcope 12-22-2002 05:31 PM

Darn those look like roto flex couplings hehe

TimT 12-22-2002 05:33 PM

Thom, what is a guibo?

a guibo is one of those big rubber donuts your looking at

CarreraS2 12-22-2002 05:36 PM

Us BMW owners are well aware of guibos!

BlueSkyJaunte 12-22-2002 06:12 PM

"Guibo"?

Think "cush drive".

makaio 12-22-2002 06:15 PM

I see. Why did they use the u-joint style half shafts on the 935? was it because of all the HP?

Doug E 12-22-2002 06:30 PM

Chris - you think HBL would honor our $100 PCA GC because that almost makes it affordable at $13,890 ;)

RPMClassic 12-23-2002 10:58 AM

Porsche list price is $8502.23. Expensive, but when you consider all the parts involved - its not that bad a deal. The stinger is the labor!!

Funny aside here, Matt...U joint half shafts? Very early 911 models used a "nadella" (if memory serves) half shaft, well known for it's frequent failure. Monte Shelton of Portland, Oregon, with much help from his super wrench Dick, did well for a few years, converting these shafts to U-joint. Anybody with a PANO collection dating back to the mid 60's can find the ads...I wonder if Porsche stole their idea for the 935??? :D
