Does anyone have experience with M&K “active exhaust” and can make recommendation

All, I have a 1986 Porsche 3.2 which is all stock and am looking to update the exhaust notes when driving. Background: My previous 911, ‘03-996’ had factory sport exhaust option which made for an incredible driving experience and one I would like to replicate. I’ve done some research on various exhaust systems and found M&K with an “active exhaust” which seems to be activated by a vacuum line going to a baffle when full acceleration is on and its quiet with moderate acceleration (they say its close to OEM sound). My thought was to replace the existing Cat with the M&K unit and keep the OEM exhaust. I would like a more throaty exhaust when driving but not one that creates so much noise that you can’t hear yourself when driving.

Website: https://mkexhaust.com/911-2/
Example: https://youtu.be/MOD2K0wqyL0.

I see there are 4 options of “active exhaust” and am wondering if any of you have installed M&K and could give me your feedback?

How much sound does it produce and is it fairly stock in sound with normal driving?

Any other recommendations or feedback when installing?

Thanks in advance, Jon

Jon -- I'm loving my m&k active exhaust. Definitely livens up the sound of my '86 targa's otherwise stock exhaust system (including original 180k mile muffler) when I get on the throttle, but returns to a basically stock sound at idle or while cruising at steady speed. I'm using the noise-reducing baffle that came with my active exhaust and haven't felt a need to remove it. I purchased the 48 state catalytic converter version, as I still need to pass smog - Understand the cat affects the sound "quality" the active exhaust produces, but I'm very pleased with its results. My mechanic installed mine, so I can't directly speak to that. However, I understand that over the years/with miles our exhaust systems do bend/contort a bit and that it's not unusual to have to tweak things to get a new cat/premuffler to line up with original heat exchangers and muffler. LMK if you have any further questions

Jon,

I have the Active Exhaust pre-muffler on my 1987 paired with an M&K 1 in/out muffler. It's a great unit that brings valved muffler technology to our beloved air cooled classics. Kudos to Brian for developing it.

Where are you located? I am in North County San Diego. You are welcome to come take a look & listen to mine.
