I removed my shifter to replaced the bushing and I didn't pay attention to how it looked originally.
Can somebody tell me if the third hole on the shift rod bushing which is located in the middle is supposed to sit in the tunnel or right under the shifter base?(like image 1 or 2?)
Thanks

I just did this last night. Struggled for an hour with trying to get the L bracket lifted up to the underside of the tunnel while trying to fish the socket bushing down into the coupler at the end while installing the two smaller bolts. Near impossible. No, totally impossible. Then I realized there's a recess for the top of the L bracket on the underside of shifter housing. I put my L bracket on top (your bottom photo) and everything went back in place lickety split. My car is an '83.

Thanks for 'a very good' tip! I thought that I was doing well by holding it up with string... ' IF' I ever have it apart again, I'll certainly remember your tip.
