Unwanted heat in summer

Recently after installing a/c I started to get unwanted heat on the driver side vents. I went back and adjusted the flapper box control on the drivers side and there was some improvement. I wondering if the inner vent is frozen inside the flapper box and I have to remove the whole flapper box and service it.

Heat in the summer just great

Anyone have any thoughts? Broken hose or whatever? Where else to look. How to remove the flapper box?

Thanks

It is very simple. When the summer begins I lift my car with the jack and go under it (it can be done easily to a mechanic but I like to do the job by myself).

You have to identify the flapper valves on the internal side up of the rear wheels and loosen the two small screws (one each side) that connect the flappers with the control cables (they have to stay OPEN).

When the first cool come at the end of october I make the reverse operation

The cable or hardware could be broken on that side. I have seen some that were very rusty. The spring at the flapper is held in place with a cotter pin, that could have given way, or the small hardware on either side of the cable let loose. If the whole thing is rusty, maybe its time for a cleanup - I removed and disassembled mine and had them powder coated, and I never have to do anything annually. I think Pre-auto heat units shared the same cable, so if that broke, you lost both sides.

If the cable fails however, the spring should pull the flapper open so the heat gets dumped outside, so if it is rusty/jamming, maybe shoot some wd-40 on it when it is cool (else fumes will go to cabin) until you can get to it for servicing.

Can you put your Model year in your signature?

Ok Don't want to seem stupid, the flapper has to be opened for no heat to the cockpit? and when the flapper is total closed that tells it to send heat to the cockpit? Is that correct?

I believe It was slightly open when I started, Closed it completely, saw some improvement but still there was some heat coming through. I assume that since the cable was moving the flapper its not the cable. It just a quest of the position for no heat to the cabin position.

Please clarify guys

Thanks

You've got it.
If the vanes(?) are opened, there is an internal flap that reduces/ blocks hot air flow to footwell and allows the hot air from the heat exchanger to be dumped outside. If the vanes look like they are closed, all of the hot air is being routed up front.

You should be able to see it in my pics of my re-furb'ed boxes.
