8'4" garage ceiling/ pipe dream to stack cars?
I have a pretty big garage but it's getting full!
I only have 8'4" ceiling height. Is it a pipe dream to be able to stack cars? One is a 914 race car and the other a '74 911 that sits pretty low as well. Any thoughts? JZ

I have a similar height ceiling, it was no go for me after much calculating and trying.
Even a small car (like a 3 series BMW) is 4.5 feet tall (4.5 x 4.5 = 9. D'oh!). A 911 is a little shorter, but not a huge amount. And the lifts don't have infinite stops. So you can't dial in the height of the top car to the inch. And I'm not sure you want to be lifting a car up to a ceiling with only 1 or 2 inches of clearance. Even two Lotus Elises total almost 8 feet of height. So unless one of the cars is a Formula Ford, I can't see how it is possible with 8'4" of ceiling. |

No.
I had an 8' ceiling, and did a major renovation to get it up to 9'6". Realize you aren't just dealing with the height of the cars, but also the stops in the lift. I have the HD-9ST, and at 9'6, I can stack 2 cars and have a comfortable amount of clearance.

I have 12' ceilings in the garage. What is a good lift that won't break the bank?

100" is not enough. Mine is 121" and I still had to modify the door and remove the chain driven door opener and replace it with a wall mounted shaft drive unit. You need 12-15" over the top car for the door to clear.
Unless you put in a manual garage door that opens like a barn door I don't think it will work. You probably don't want that extra effort I rented a storage spot about 4 miles from my house for my SC. |

I don't have a garage door problem... In fact my garage is much bigger than most, just trying to maximize space.

I had a 4-post BendPak in my last garage and it worked flawlessly. I had a 12' ceiling in that garage so no fitment issues. I think it was pretty reasonable to, something along the lines of $2,500 if I recall correctly. That was delivered. I think it was just under $2,800 installed-by Bendpak. In my new (to me) garage I am going to excavate a pit in the center stall and do an in-ground scissor lift that will be flush with the finished porcelain tile floor when it is down. I hope to get to that in the spring of 2017. Got one other project in front of my garage.

Any way you can modify the ceiling in one section of the garage ?

It would be easier to go down... I might be able to get 3-4 inches overhead maybe.
