AAR Question

[I] have a 1982 sc with a persistent high and irregular idle. When I choke off the hose to the AAR idles nice. I took off the valve and the door was closed but when I draw air through buy sucking on the valve it seems as though the door is not sealing off the opening. I can pull as hard as I can and there's no resistance whatsoever. Is this normal or defective? I have no valve here to check it against. Should the opening be completely sealed when hot? Doesn't seem right.

its not going to be air tight but should provide enough of a seal to bring the idle down. if the door is closed and there is no sealing off, thats unusual.
also if you removed the part from the car, the door should be open.
when i say open, i mean about 1/3 open- any more and the car will idle way too high.

Just to add to the pain I can't find the hose that connects the boot to the AAR and the other air valve. It's brittle and breaking up. I tried the PET diagrams and the number comes up for the 77 to 79 cars not the 82 sc. I'll most likely make the hose from scratch anyway. Can't find it on our hosts parts website.

If your hose it breaking up and sucking air that's where your high idle is coming from. You can probably get a 2nd hand replacement from the dc Auto folks.

so whats connected to the boot on top? if that hole is open close it.
thats the source of your problems. if that is gone do this- get a plastic fitting that fits the boot then run some hose from there to side of the AAR w/the elec plug. thats how i run my car
