How much HP from my engine? (3.4L)

What the title says... How much power can I expect to get from my engine when all is said and done?

My engine specs:
3.2 liter base that will become 3.4 (98 mm) during this spring. (Starting assembly of the crankcase now)

CR 10,5:1.
Tec3r EFI, sequential injection, twin spark, knock sensor...
Rarlyl8 1 5/8" headers w/heat.
Dansk sports muffler 2in1out.
PMO 46 induction.
DC43 cams.
Heads are overhauled and basically stock.

Is 280 HP a good guess?

More likely 260ish unless you have some internal work so you can spin it faster. You will need to get the air/fuel and the timing just right which is confusing with the 46 PMO induction and sequential injection. Are you using PMOs as just throttle bodies?

Remember the engine is only an air pump. The quantity of power extracted from a given quantity of air-fuel mixture is surprisingly fixed. If you want more power you have to pump more air: Make it bigger, make it spin faster, or compress the air before it goes in.

BTW: Seeing that you have twin plugged it...
Any reason you aren't going to 100mm P&Cs? You are already putting out money for the bigger cans so get the largest that will fit.

95mm = 3164cc
98mm = 3367cc
100mm = 3506cc

From what I read, it sounds like a great start. If I where to take an educated guess, I would say around 250-270 range. Put her together and keep us updated on the final numbers.

I know, I am up against some experienced guys here, but I have seen mildly modded but well balanced 3.2s making numbers upwards of 250. I'd say your own 280 is my bet as well.

Good luck!

Exhaust is really important. The set up is on the cusp and the difference depending on exhaust can very +/- 30 hp, so what is your exhaust set up?

HELLO OTTO AND ALL THIS IS INTERESTING TO ME AS I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF DOING ALMOST THE SAME SETUP.. IT IS MY FIRST BUILD AND I AM DOING IT WITH GREAT ADVICE FROM A GREAT ENGINE BUILDER TUNER EVEN THOUGH I AM DOING IT MYSELF

LOW MILES 88 NA 3.2 BORED TO 3.4 AND RECOATED.. DONE BY EBS
CUSTOM FITTED PISTONS 10.6:1
HEADS TWIN PLUGGED AND COMPLETLY REDONE/FLOWED BY XTREME
SLIGHTLY LARGER VALVES
ARP STUDS
LIGHTWEIGHT VALVE TRAIN TIT.RET. ETC
RODS AND ROCKERS RECON'D LIGHTENED
594/595 WEBCAM
TEC3R ITB IGNITION/INJECTION SEQ.CAM/CRANKFIRED
46 PMOS
BB 15/8S RACE HEADERS W/HEAT
BB 2 IN 2 OUT RACE MUFFLER, OR THE INDIVIDUAL STUBBY MUFFLERS

MY BULDER SUGGESTED THAT WITH PROPER TUNING, I COULD GET 320-340 AT FW ON 95 PUMP GAS WITH THIS SETUP.

SO I AM WONDERING WHERE YOU CALCULATIONS COME FROM AS THEY AFRE QUITE DIFFERENT THAN MINE

ANYWAY ITS A GREAT PROJECT.. JUST HOPE I CAN GERT IT BACK TOGETHER AND KEEP IT IN ON PIECEC FOR AWHILE

I would expect 280-290. Not quite comparable but my 3.0 Liter engine makes 260 in this trim:

930/Carrera engine block
95 mm cylinders
JE pistons 10.5 comp. Adjusted to 10.2
Carillo rods
3.0 Euro Carrera/2.4/2.7 crank
Carrera 3.2 heads with new valves and guides. The heads were fitted with a special flange and drilled to accept the MFI injectors.
GE 60 cams
MFI setup with throttle boddies and stacks from a 2.2 S
KN aircleaners
Dansk Stainless steel heat exchangers
Stainless steel 2 in 1 out muffler.

I have now replaced the heat exchangers with a set of 40 mm headers. I am also going for a pair of 42 mm throttle bodies, as the ones from the 2.2 are way too small for the Carrera 3.2 heads. That should add a bit of HP...

The short answer: Price. I had my Stock cylinders bored and replated. 98mm is the limit for boring those.

PMO ITB's 46mm, yes.
Sequential injection is not needed, but I read that makes for a more steady idle.

Your engine is made to spin faster, that opens the door for more HP. I'm staying under 7000 rpm.

Thanks guys
I think maybe my question is a bit like asking how long is a rope.
I'm very exited to get the final results...

I chose to stay below 7000rpm to avoid stressing the engine. This is primarily a street car after all, but will see some trackdays as well.

My 3.4 with 98mm mahle, dc20 cams, sport pre/main silencer, 10.45:1 CR, single plug and remapped has dyno'd between 269-274 at flywheel

I have now fitted headers so hoping to see a minor jump once remapped

This is on 99ron UK fuel

DC43's can pull all the way to 7500 so you have the potential to be +300hp.

It will most likely be determined by your exhaust system choice and layout.

Just to add to Shirish's post, his is breathing through a normal 3.2 intake (with a larger throttle body), so you should do better with ITBs.

A better comparison is Andy Perks 3.0, with DC60 cams, 1 5/8 headers and Jenvey ITBs that made 285fwhp turning no more than 7000rpm.

So you should be north of both those engines. There are a ton of custom mapped but fairly standard 3.2 engines making 250+fwhp (see the 911chips website for example), so anyone who says you will only get 250-260fwhp is IMHO highly pessimistic.

Thougt I'd bring the result from this engine build. It has been on the road for a while now and I finnaly had time to get it checked on the dyno.
The result was 281Hp at the engine at 6300 rpm
So my guess was pretty much spot on!

I'm very satisfied with this result, and the fact that it is very streetable and trackable is a big bonus. It actually pulls hard at 3500. Max torque is 328 Newton at 5250rpm. Not too shabby ay?
