Good afternoon, is there a difference between the Sekurit windshield and windshield ordered by a Porsche dealer?

Thanks

Decided to go local so if there was any issue... there could be personal dialogue. Spoke with Safelite who first quoted me $161. Asked for product numbers to check them against glass that fit and numbers confirmed. Called Safelite back and new price was $250. Fellow who quoted me was unavailable. After 2 hours messing with Safelite to get price they first quoted... "Thanks but no thanks." They called back later same day and asked when I would like to come get glass. Really!?!?!

Called Charlie's Auto Glass on 8th and 67th. $180 for green visor'd, tax included. They promised me it would fit---said they sell a great deal of 911 glass. Also picked up new Porsche seal. Put it in today with 4Flyboy/Scott next to me in garage doing same thing to his car. His fit... mine didn't. Seal barely grabs lip where it does. Sides are not grabbing at all and corners are open gaps just like before.

I'm over blaming glass and/or seal. Something has got to be off with my window frame. Seems like the opening is 1" too large in each direction. 1/2" shorter on each side and top and seal would position nicely on lip and corners would seal.

EDIT: If the frame opening were 1" smaller the seal/glass would probably not fit. Does need to be smaller frame or larger glass.

Can a glass place extend the edge of a piece of glass by 1/2" all around? (Or what ever maximum safe margin is that will hide seam behind seal--- might be 3/8" all around. That would work.

If anyone happens to have a piece of 911 glass and can measure widest point... that's be great. Piece I have is 52 1/4".

I don't have a measurement, but I do know that with my car - 1989 Carrera - that it has 964 windshield glass part number. Sometime in 1988 the pinch weld went from 10 mm to 15 mm ~ 1/4 inch larger frame - i.e. smaller glass, so in theory, windshield is ~1/2" smaller top to bottom and side to side. I am wondering if you have a later 964 / 993 glass?

^^^ C&D... Interesting Porsche TB you posted. Makes sense. Will investigate with this TB. Much appreciated.

I know this is an old thread, but wanted to see if Alpha Auto Glass recommended here is this outfit? Live in Ft. Lauderdale.

Thanks,

+1 for ProSource. Bought a front windshield my 83 SC and it was perfect in terms of shade and fit.
