Looks nice, but wouldn't the rear bike tire bounce on the engine grill? Here's a pic of another Targa roof rack to give you ideas as well.

using a seasucker mount on the rear window is probably another solution. Not sure if it would work on the targa bar

Cool. Thanks for the feedback. Yep. Planning on using a seasucker for the rear tire.
Should have everything completed by the end of the week.

Great picture! Love the car and bike.
I thought about using Seasucker for both mounts but wanted to try to stay retro or as close to the original Porsche rack as possible. The picture below shows the original style rack on a beautiful/stunning Targa.

It is hard to tell if your rear Seasucker is on the vent of the wing? If it is I am seriously impressed that it stays put.

Here are some updates...
I decided to use leather straps for the rear car to mimic leather luggage straps. I think they look vintage and fit the style very good. I still have a few more items to clean up but its getting there.

Wow. Russel do you mind sharing specs on how you built that? Trying to convince the wife to take the Targa on some road trips with us but we need a rack. I live the style of this compared to a sea sucker.

Just FYI, The decklid, and especially the grill, are known for denting in just from closing with your hand in the wrong position.

I love the rack design but would hate to see your early parts damaged from the weight of the bike bouncing up and down.

The build is fairly easy if you have a welder and pipe bender. I tried to follow Porsche's original design (as shown on the yellow car in thread) to keep the vintage look. It helps that the targa already has mounting holes for these roof and bike racks.

Good point and weight is certainly something to think about. This rack design has bracing behind the grill to help support the weight of each bike. My rack is used at least once a week and haven't noticed any issues so far. The 2 bikes I carry are 30lbs each.

jpnovak does bring up a good point. If you have a heavy bike (30lb+) prob need to think about special bracing or another mounting point.

The good thing about being an engineer is that I can perform an analysis and optimize the design where needed.

Cool. It was not apparent that you reinforced the backside of the grill. Glad you were thinking ahead.

Nicely done, last photo appears to show tire touching the deck lid just forward of the grill. Suggest to rest the tire on a pad to gain some elevation above the lid. Don't mar your paint!
