Targa bar mounting bolt repair

Hi Everyone - long time stalker, first (or almost first) time poster.

After waiting for eight years, the car was finally painted and brought home yesterday. I'm now starting the process of putting everything back together. First up is the targa bar. When I removed it 3 of the 4 mounting bolts were well rusted and broke off.

I've searched and read through a bunch of posts to see if anyone has repaired their targa bar. The posts that talk about it say it's an easy repair, but no one really explained how the repair was done. From what I've been able to gather, new studs are welded on. But it seems like on the top half, I need to grind off half the bolt. Is that for clearance behind the targa bar and the body?

Thanks in advance for any insight before I attempt this repair.

Mine was held on by 4 bolts as well. I had to grind off 2 rusted ones and weld on new. Make sure you get the measurements correct in both the distance between the bolt and the edge as well as the position where the bolt is in relation to the front or back.

Thanks for the tip. Did you just buy new bolts from the local hardware store?

Not sure, I grabbed that picture from somewhere on the web so I could show people what I'm talking about. On my Targa bar, all of the bolts broke off.

To repair those bolts, they need to be brazed on. No weld, no solder. Brazed on.
Somewhere on this site there is a thread on it.
