i "educated" a boxter today....a little OT

i did something tonite i've always wanted to do.....
if you don't like street stories don't read

i was driving on the highway heading home in my turbo dodge omni, i have the engine tweeked so it's VERY quick.
a silver boxter (not an s) came up behind me pretty quickly, i was cruising at about 60. he's on my driver side and does the old lurch trick next to me (he probably saw my pillar guages lit up), well the 4 lane highway was empty and a strait stretch, so i dropped it in 4th and it spooled up to it's 20lbs........the boxter was at my rear bumper, i shift to fifth and the boxter get's 1/2 a legnth in front of me, as 20lbs kick in i gained 2 lengths on him then backed off as we were approaching 130, i give him a thumbs up after we slowwed, he also gave the thumbs up but looked in dismay that he just got spanked by a dodge omni, i'm sure he's sitting at home this very minute thinking......"wtf was that thing"

now if only my targa was a turbo.............

That is the ultimate sleeper. Maybe they should've named "it" Stealth.

Actually now that I think about it. Weren't the Omni and the Stealth both Mitsubishis?

The first three years that they made the 4 door dodge omni they came with VW 1.7L engines. then they made a Chrysler 2.2 that, I believe was based on the VW engine. The GLH was based on the 2.2 I believe.

Completely off-topic but since you mentioned it...The quickest car at my high school back in '85 was a blue Dodge Omni GLH. That little car could spank any other car at the time. "(G)oes (L)ike (H)ell" is an understatement. I assume you're running an intercooler, chip, adj boost control, etc to get 20lbs of boost. Unfortunately, a deer put to an end that blue Dodge.

the early omni's were based on the vw, but in 84-85 they went to the pure dodge 2.2 then later to the 2.5 by increasing the stroke.
i've got +20 injectors, intercooler, stageII logic module, garret tdo4, 2 1/2" open exhaust with a glasspack, a bigger cam, big fuel pump. it gets around 8 miles to the gallon in the city, mainly because it's always in the boost
i have a garage full of turbo dodge stuff (i know it should be full of porsche parts) but the fact that you can build these engines for less than a grand makes it even more fun.
the turbo minivans are silly..........gary donovan (a dodge guru http://www.thedodgegarage.com/ ) has a k-car that runs 10's and his minivan tow vehicle runs 14's
i haven't had mine at the 1/4 in a year but before all the mods i was running low 14's
oh..........and i'm approaching 250,000 miles on the orginal block

I've heard of that guy before. I used to be really into those Dodges back in the day. I had an '85 Turbo Z Daytona that I intercooled and chipped and it was cranking around 15 lbs of boost. Great engine but the car was another story...

Those 2.2 and 2.5 turbos can be nasty sleepers. I remember seeing a 12 second "bad ass minivan" on some web page. It was that crappy powder blue w/ woodgrain sides...the ultimate sleeper (that sleeps 3 comfortably, hehe).

I had a black 85 Daytona Turbo also. That car really ran well, but I ended up warping the heads and selling it. It was a neat car.

the numbered shelby omni's/chargers are the desirable ones. here's a good read on how "it" started in 86' and how easily one of these cars can be reproduced, i like the daytonas but i was able to get my omni down to 1950lbs.......daytonas require MUCH more work to acheive that weight

I think the Boxster did pretty well. It might have even been an early 2.5 since you say it wasn't an S.

Now since you like to "educate:" It's Box-s-ter, not Boxter.

And regarding, Let's get down to brass tax......., unless you are referring ot some kind of tax on brass, maybe you would consider using the word tacks, as that is how the old saw goes.
