Heater control knob side access?

I think the metal rod fell off my heater control knob, when I turn it nothing happens, my questions is this, it appears that on both sides of the emergency brake/heater control plastic that there is an access door on either side, is this removable? This is on a 86.

Thanks in advance,

RJ, yes it is removeable. Remove the panel from the right side and the servo rod will be visible.

I found my problem and its the little gromet that fits on the heater control lever. This gromet is hosed so when the servo moves the gromet does not pull the lever. Does anyone have an exploded view of this? Need to get a part number to get one ordered.. a link would be great or even a hint. Could not find one on Wayne's parts list.

This thing... Or is there suppose to be a tie in the slit and wrap around the top?
