Torsion tube?
Hello I got a 66 911 that I got when I was 16 it's Been in a trailer over 15 years. Short story I was getting the car restored and I guess the guy wanted to retired and kinda of screwed me over so now I have the car apart. So here's the story the trailer leaked so now I have to get floor pans replaced and after cleaning it up they cut the torsion tube out. the pervious owner had 930 turbo flares and wing put on so the rear wheels didn't line up with the wheel well so they guy had me get the trailing arms from a lwb porsche but I didn't know anything about the torsion tube is there some that have a lwb tube for sale I'm in sarasota Florida US.
I'll be posting more need more parts and transmission rebuilt |

Let's see what you've got. You could post a Want To Buy in the Used Parts forum.

There are some good threads on torsion tube restoration. I'll see if I can find one I recall the guy swapped one out, he was from up north...orange swb car...awesome restoration. Anyway, don't worry, just about anything can be done and had to get it back to where it was originally. It might cost some good time and money but hey, it's a 1966 911.

Xray, time has certainly been your friend here! If you haven't done so yet, check out early911sregistry.org. Primarily 64-73 cars. Good luck! Post pics along the way, and welcome.

Yes it has I can't believe how much in value these cars have gone to. I just don't know how much impact it would be if I change it to lwb and keep the flares and the whale tail wing it's one of the reasons why I fell in love with the car any thoughts ?

The question is, are you thinking of selling it after you are done? Or keeping it. That is the basic question to be answered. Looks like hot rod material to me.
Look here for some inspiration. Show me your narrow bodied early hot rod! BTW, if those rear flairs are steel and well done, I would keep them.

It's not something that has to be done all at once. You have a good motor so use it, maybe down the road find another and take it back to spec. In the meantime you can do the structural and body work back to stock....then the interior...etc....
No, it likely won't ever be a numbers matching time capsule but a restored 1966 911 in "stock" form will be worth every penny if you choose to sell it at anytime. Someone asked your future plans to keep it or sell it .... I guess that's the key, and what kind of car jacks you up, the hot rodded "tribute", or the vintage simplicity of the original?

I like the flares so I guess that answers the question I'll keep the original trailing arms so when I do sell they can change it back if they like

1968 912 junker reincarnation
Here's the thread I was talking about but I thought it addressed a similar issue to yours....must've been another thread? Anyway, a nicely sorted 1966 is cool regardless so carry on! ![]() I believe there are suspension set ups that don't require torsion bars but I'm not an expert, someone on here probably knows better what I'm referring to and may chime in.

A '935' set up could be installed on a LWB car but the small shock absorber towers of the early bodyshell would mean that the Coil Over Shocks would need to be fitted 'upside down' with suitable adapters.
The shock towers would need substantial reinforcement to react the coil spring forces so the mods would become more extensive. You could of course change the towers for those from a later shell. |
