New projects - the Webers
I've been experiencing popping, irregular idle and rough running at high rpm. I attempted to adjust the carbs, found some controls uneffective and it wouldn't hold an idle. All this, added to the fact there's gunk apparently leaking from the carbs, convinced me to pull'em off to clean and inspect. I suspect I'll likely rebuild'em.
I was wondering: while they're off should I also pull, clean the manifolds and replace gaskets? Also, I can now see the intake valves. What should I look for, from an inspection point-of-view? Finally, all NoVa early-911 or carb-geeks are welcome to come over to offer opinions, etc. ![]()

Nothing to the rebuild, and nothing looks beter than clean, ungunked Webers. Be careful removing the float needle caps. They're soft brass and deform easily. A John Walker tip is to grind the bevel off of the socket to remove them, so you get better contact. Have fun!

Yes replace the gaskets on the intakes, as far as valve inspections look for any oil that might be on the stem indicating bad valve guides or worn valve seals, also protect the intake ports by stuffing rags in them so no debris or flying hardware will make there way into the valve chamber......... that would be bad
