Dear Friends
I´m in a process of completely repaint a 1976 911s the car will be green, and I Would like to know what is the correct stock color of the bottom of the car I hear somewhere that no matter the color of the car the bottom and part of the engine bay, are like a off white, very light cream because that was the color of the primmer back them Is that any true? I Already saw car with the bottom painted with the exterior color, with black, with mate black, etc Thanks for the advise |

For 76-77 cars the off white is correct. There will be body color overspray near the edges of the underside of the body.

I went thru this a while ago trying to decide what to do when painting the underside. The correct finish like 77Targa says is the Wurt undercoating finish (grey/tan) color with body color overspray. The problem with this is that if you are going to paint the hole thing the finish of the undercoating is not as smooth a the clear coat of the paint finish and it becomes a huge factor if you want to keep it clean. I usually get my car on a lift every year a do a cleanup of the underside. So I did the undercoating first and then decided to paint with body paint and clear coat. The second is more expensive but the undeside is pretty easy to clean and maintain.
![]() ![]() ![]() In reality is more expensive to do the paint and clear underside, but the final product looks better and is easier to maintain. It all depends on your budget and taste.
